Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the production of management accounts in a number of the group’s subsidiary undertakings for inclusion in the group’s management accounts. The successful applicant will be expected to provide support and challenge to local accountants in a number of group entities including Germany and Ireland whilst preparing information for others.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate production of subsidiary company management accounts and other key management information
  • Reporting of key variances to budget and forecast
  • Inter-company account reconciliations
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and nominal ledger maintenance
  • Driving improvements and efficiencies within the management accounts processes
  • Managing subsidiary entity taxation compliance (CT/VAT/PAYE)
  • Assist the financial controller with preparation of year end accounts
  • Ad hoc reporting, analysis and commission statement production
  • Proactively managing workload to ensure all deadlines are met within month-end timetable.

Person Specification:

  • Newly qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Relevant work experience within a similar industry
  • Good analytical and IT skills
  • Advanced Excel skills along with proficiency in Word
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written)
  • Excellent attention to detail, and comfortable with dealing with large bodies of data.

What you’ll be doing:

  • As you learn the ropes, you’ll be trusted to support the Treasury team with daily activities to ensure we have adequate funding to cover day to day and strategic requirements
  • Developing your understanding of how we work, you’ll take on responsibility for some of our daily cash management activities – this ensures we maintain short-term liquidity
  • This is a fast-paced team and there are multiple deadlines to meet every day; this role will nurture your grasp of Treasury processes so that you can help us to remain compliant with all our contractual obligations
  • Building upon your natural numeracy, you’ll develop technical accounting skills that will enable you to tackle Treasury transactions and the reconciliation of our corporate bank accounts – including foreign currency revaluations

How we’ll support your learning

  • We’ll fund your AAT up to Level 4. These qualifications will support your journey of development by ensuring the right foundations are in place – improving your accountancy knowledge and grasp of financial concepts
  • Taking around 2 years to complete, in combination with practical on-the-job training, you’ll also receive mentoring and the opportunity to really get under the skin of our incredible business. Helping you shape your personal career plan and identify your next career steps with us
  • Upon completion of your AAT’s, we’ll support your further progression in Whitbread and your enrolment on to either the ACCA or CIMA professional accountancy course too

Job Description

  • Working together with the Senior Management Accountant to timely distribute the monthly management accounts and the implementation of agreed improvements to processes within the Finance department.
  • Ownership of the Balance Sheet & Fixed Asset Register
  • Assist in the preparation and process of all monthly journals, including Prepayments, Accruals, Wage journals & Depreciation,
  • Ensuring that all balance sheet reconciliations are completed and reconciling items cleared on a monthly basis in order to maintain accurate records,
  • Reviewing the Purchase Order log and making appropriate PO/Invoice accruals,
  • Monthly reconciliation of Bank transactions,
  • Preparing VAT returns and submissions,
  • Liaise with and support of the Sales and Purchase ledger functions to ensure timely and accurate postings to the general ledger,
  • Liaising with other Group companies regarding Inter-company balances,
  • Assist with the production of the monthly management accounts, to the Directors and Sector Managers to support the running and control of a successful business
  • Assist in the preparation of the Year-end audit and Statutory accounts,
  • To prepare and process weekly payments via online banking.
  • Lodgement and reconciliation of sales invoices onto the Invoice Financing facility,
  • To maintain and manage the daily cash flow spread sheet (where necessary),
  • Continued assessment of current processes / controls to identify areas that may need improvement to add value to the business and implement the agreed changes,
  • Maintain timely and consistent communication with different offices
  • Review financial information within short timescales and identify problems, underlying causes and trends,
  • To assist with general office duties including filing, telephone calls etc
  • Ad hoc duties and projects as required by Line Manager
